Unfortunately, the neck is one of the first areas of the body to begin to show the signs of age. Wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin can detract from our youthful glow, and add years to our appearance. If you aren’t ready for a full facelift, but you want to address a double chin, wrinkled, lax neck, a “turkey wattle” and jowls, a neck lift may be an ideal procedure for you.

What Is A Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the appearance of loose or sagging skin in the neck region, restoring your contoured, elegant neckline. Dr. Few performs neck lift surgery in Chicago to help the jawline and neck match the more youthful facial appearance by removing excess skin and fat to tighten and smooth the neck region.

What Happens During A Neck Lift Procedure?

A neck lift begins with an in-depth consultation with Dr. Few in his Chicago plastic surgery practice. He will examine your skin and neck and discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals. Dr. Few will study your medical history and discuss the details of the procedure with you, including answering any and all questions so that you’re fully prepared and confident. Once you are ready to begin, you will be put under general anesthesia.

Dr. Few will make small incisions around and behind your ears in your hairline, and a very small one under the chin. Using these incision points, Dr. Few will lift the muscles of the neck, remove extra fat, reposition the tissues and create a firm neck contour. He will lift and secure the skin into place, then trim away excess skin. Once the neck lift is complete, Dr. Few will close the incisions and apply a pressure dressing to the area around your head and underneath the chin.

The neck lift procedure takes between 2-4 hours.

Recovery after neck lift surgery

After your neck lift in Chicago with Dr. Few, you may return home with a friend or family member to drive you and help care for you. You will experience bruising and swelling, which will fade in a couple of weeks. You may have a drain in your neck, in addition to your pressure dressing, which will help reduce swelling. The drain will be removed after a couple of days. Dr. Few will see you again within the following week to remove your stitches and ensure you’re healing well.

You will need about a week to rest and recover. During this initial week, wear your bandage day and night, which will help reduce swelling, and use a cold compress. Keep your head raised when lying down. After two weeks, most people are able to return to sedentary work. While you may feel recovered, it’s important to continue to avoid strenuous activities for 4-6 weeks.
