Liposuction is used to address those stubborn areas by removing excess fat deposits to slim and reshape specific areas of the body, including the submental and neck. Liposuction may be performed alone or in combination with other surgical procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction or tummy tuck. Nonsurgical options for enhancing your liposuction results include radio frequency and ultrasound technologies:

Radiofrequency energy treatments are an innovative application that reduces unwanted cellulite and tightens the skin over a series of treatments. Focused ultrasonic energy treatments can be used to lift and tighten lax tissue on the arms and legs. Each of these can provide great results on their own or in combination with your surgical procedure(s). Be sure to ask Dr. Few if they’re right for you.

Procedural Steps

Anesthesia

Dr. Few will use either oral, IV or general anesthesia so that you remain comfortable during your procedure. Oral anesthesia procedures are performed on-site at The Few Institute in a fully certified procedure room.

Before the procedure, he will inject a tumescent solution (a large volume of fluid that contains anesthetic) into the treatment area(s), which will numb the the tissues and shrink the blood vessels to minimize bleeding and make contouring easier during the procedure. This fluid is partially removed as part the procedure and what remains is digested by the body. (It is frequent to have some spotting of fluid during the first day after the surgery.)

Incision

Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. Once the tumescent solution has taken effect, Dr. Few removes fat using a small tube (cannula) that loosens excess fat by a back and forth movement in the treatment area. Dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body with a surgical vacuum.

Your results

Swelling and fluid retention are commonly experienced after liposuction. It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks to see a significant change, with final results taking 9 to 12 months. Once these subside, you will be able to see your improved body contour. Results are often permanent with maintenance of a fitness program and healthy diet.

However, substantial weight gain can alter an otherwise permanent result. The liposuction patient must return to a healthy lifestyle after surgery to preserve the result (diet and exercise when cleared by Dr. Few). This is considered part of the deal!
